''Historian: Caleb. Date: 01/27/2025'' '''TLDR''' – Newton tells us a little bit about the Sky Bound Land’s pantheons, as well as the Breezeways. We decide to look for a Breezeway, and while looking for one, we spot a path that leads us to a crossroads pointing to Low Falutin (north), the Lamplighter’s Lodge (west), and the Lake of the Fated Winds (east). We make camp there for the night. Jericho is harassed relentlessly for readings. Henrietta finds Astranna’s gravestone, complete with a death date of tomorrow, which freaks everyone the fuck out, until we discover the gravestone is a prank done by Newton’s friend Bungle (who expected a much better reaction). We yell at Bungle for a while before agreeing to help convince a bridge troll to let him cross their bridge, since Bungle has severely pissed them off. * Date: 1 Lionnir 777AR-2 Lionnir 777AR. * Dalton is tapped for the first recap! We’re also told of the requirement for recaps in TK – you have to begin your recap with the words “once upon a time”. ** “Once upon a time, a bunch of random people fell from the sky.” * We begin in the Forest Over Yonder, making our way through with our new friend, Newton Gecks. Anja periodically checks the ground for rocks, and rolls a d6 [4] – she picks up some beautiful shiny rocks, including one that vibrates for a moment before popping open. A bunch of snails wiggle out in all directions. ** “Oh, well look at this. I found some more companions.” * Astranna wonders if they talk, and leans in close, only to hear them shouting to run. She tells Anja she should probably put them down, and asks Anja about the rocks. ** “I do enjoy a rock, a good mineral. The shiny ones look great in clothes.” * Anja flourishes a bit, showing the shiny stones embedded in her clothes, and Astranna says she’ll let her know if she finds any. Anja continues, saying that rocks tell a story about the land – you just have to learn their language. Jericho is frantically writing this down in a notebook, and Anja asks what he’s writing. ** “Hmm? Oh, uh, I’m hoping I can remember this when I wake up. It’s gonna make a great novel.” * We continue to try to convince Jericho this isn’t a dream. Astranna asks if his dreams are normally like this, and he says no, but it would make sense, given some family history stuff. His mom was an oneiromancer – someone who can glean the future from dreams. Astranna finds this very cool, but Jericho doesn’t think so. Anja adds that it sounds like a blessing and a curse, and he says it wasn’t much of a blessing for her. * Newton asks us again where we’re from, and everyone lists the places off – Newton frog-blinks at us. ** “Wackity! I don’t know any of those places.” * Jericho says he’s from the Prime Ring, and asks if that helps. It doesn’t. Newton doesn’t even know what a planet is. Anja says she lived in a city. ** “Oh golly, I can’t imagine creatures as strange as you are walking around all over.” * He’s surprised to hear we have multiple Forests Over Yonder. Anja infodumps about geography, and Jericho tries to mansplain forests to him. We tell Newton we’re from the Ground-Bound Lands. He ponders exploring there to find the best fishing spot, but we tell him that’s not a great idea right now. * We tell him a little bit about our gods, and he says their names are dumb. He tells us of some of the Breeze-Born gods – there’s Hareen (goddess of the sun), Marleer (the sea), Gout (the wind), Torin (the weather), Nilwick (the night – “he should be coming pretty soon”)... We don’t recognize any of them. After we list off some of the high gods, he asks if we worship a Velkie pantheon. ** “Technically I live in the Tillages, and a lot of people there don’t worship the Breeze-Born. A lot of people worship the Velkie. We don’t talk about the Gunther people…” * We ask about the Gunther people, and are told there are some people who don’t believe in the Breeze-Born or the Velkie, just Gunther Eisling. ** “They’re fun to be around, just strange.” * Gunther’s a god, but Newton doesn’t think he’s ever been seen. He thinks he’s ''the'' god of the Sky-Bound Lands? At the very least, Newton thinks the Breeze-Born gods like us. * Newton realizes after a while that we might be a little lost – he hasn’t seen this part of the forest (to us, it looks like the rest). We ask a bit about Low Falutin. ** “Wellll, it’s a town, it’s called Low Falutin, it’s got houses. Some of them have grass growing on the roofs. There’s a well in town, it has some fresh water. Everyone likes to have fun. We don’t have libraries there.” ** [About the lack of libraries] “We’re not uppity like that.” * We ask how he normally gets around, and he tells us he often finds a Breezeway and orients himself from there, but usually he just gets walking and the forest takes him where he needs to go. He tells us a Breezeway is where the trees grow into each other to make an arch, and the wind goes through it really fast. We ask about Breezestones, but he tells us that he’s never actually seen one, so he doesn’t know if they’re big or not (but they’re very, very powerful). * Newton says he’d been using a string to navigate, but a bird bit his string in half and flew off with it. ** “I went up to a guy for help and that guy was Dr. Quasit and he robbed me. But then I met you guys, and things got better!” * We ask when the Breezestones broke, and he says he heard it from his friend Bungle a few days ago, who heard it from his nan, so maybe a week ago? * Astranna suggests Gwyn climbs a tree to look for a Breezeway, and Gwyn does so – 2 successes on a phys check. The sun is beginning to set, but as she scours the surrounding forest, she spots a path maybe 1.5 miles to our northeast. We set off for it. Jericho tries to envision and teleport to Low Falutin, using dream logic. Pierro is concerned, and tells him he’s blinking really hard. Jericho reassures him, and Pierro chills out, but does poke his head out to ask for some more leaves and grasses. ** Jericho grabs some fresh leaves for him, and Pierro begins fashioning more of a nest. Seeing this, Alphie asks Astranna to hand over some loose feathers to contribute to the cause (which she does, after asking permission from Henrietta). * After some more traveling, we come to a fork in the road around sunset, and see three signs – to the west is Lamplighter’s Lodge, to the north is Low Falutin, and to the east is the Lake of the Fated Winds. We ask Newt, and he says he thinks he’s heard of the lake before, but he doesn’t know where. * We make camp, and everyone feeds their pets (Maple is upset she isn’t having fish). Henrietta goes off to peck at bugs and stuff in the undergrowth. Anja asks about the Titanic Ring – Astranna says she’s never left Geldorf, but it’s nice! They’ve got a pretty big hill, and some orchards. She asks about the Prime Ring, and Anja says there are some pretty big mountains in Zell. Some Aarakocra live up there. Jericho asks if she’s been near Havell, and she says no, but her half-sister’s dad(?) might’ve. ** Jericho and Alphie say they haven’t traveled much either. * Jericho tells Astranna about alectryomancy – laying out feed for a chicken and reading the symbols in the negative space it leaves. When asked, he says he can try to do our futures. He’s done tarot, dactylomancy, bibliomancy, tasseography… his sister does haruspicy, but it’s not his personal forte. He likes dactylomancy, because it’s the easiest to read, but the quickest is palmistry. * Anja asks him to give a reading based on her eye color – he says he’s a bit out of practice, but he could try. He looks into her eyes (one very dark brown, the other gray), and says she should be careful of any genetic liver problems. She also might be a bit more likely to develop congested sinuses. Alphie asks to be read next, and Jericho uses Note in the Sleeve to gain insight on Alphie; he feels like they have a problem with him, and he wants to know what the deal is. ** Alphie’s interested in Jericho and his divination magic. They did have an issue with shooting an otter that could’ve been taken down with fists, though. * Astranna’s Mind Reader power triggers – she wants to know how Jericho learned divination, or about some cool readings he’s done! She wins the roll-off (2:1). ** “You see a very tiny orc child in a very dark place (physically), bent over an extremely old beaten-up book, seems handwritten, a taller orcish woman behind him, one hand on his head, half-falling asleep as he’s trying to read the words in the book.” *** A kid who’s being forced to study something. He’s trying, but ''god'' it’s boring. Astranna would also pick up a sense of family history. * Astranna comments that he’s been doing this for a long time. * Jericho says he’s not as good in certain areas as others, but he does his best. ** “Personally, in the two services my business offers, I prefer the detective stuff. But weirdly, the fortune-telling gets requested more.” * Anja pays him 1gp for the reading. He tries to refuse, but she insists. She also asks him to pet Maple, and he agrees, though he keeps Pierro as far from her as possible. ** “It is okay, human. I shall not eat your companion.” ** “I’m an orc, for one, but okay. Thanks for saying that.” ** “You are a human to me. Human.” * Alphie requests the eye reading again, but Jericho wants to vary it and do something else. He looks up at the stars, and notices they’re not different from the ones back home. He offers to read Alphie’s palm. ** “”I don’t know that that’s the best one, my hands… are cold at the moment.” * Newton offers for Alphie to warm their hands up near the fire, and Alphie takes off a glove and warms their hand by the fire before offering it to Jericho. Jericho says he’ll just do something else, and settles on bibliomancy. They settle on a general reading, and he flips through a book without reading it, and points at a random word – “cuttlefish”. He says Frank is going to be a bit more significant in Alphie’s life events than he is currently. * Jericho asks Astranna if she was with her mom before she left, since she mentioned her – Astranna says no, it was just her and Henrietta, but she knows her mom will need her help. It’s just the two of them running the farm, after all. Jericho alludes to having hit monetary troubles before he left home. * Astranna goes to round up Henrietta for bed, and finds her staring at something. ** “Do you see anything?” ** “Mhm. I see your gravestone.” * Henrietta waddles off, and Astranna looks in that direction – about 50 ft away, she does indeed see her gravestone, complete with her name and birth date. The date of death is tomorrow! The 2nd of Lionnir, 777 AR. She calls out to Jericho, asking what it means when you find our own gravestone. ** “I’ll be honest, this is the clearest, least interpretable thing I’ve ever seen.” * The gravestone seems fresh, but the ground is undisturbed. Jericho goes back to tell Anja (who is too preoccupied with Maple to join us), and does a bibliomancy reading for Astranna. He lands on “raccoon”. The group decides on taking watches, and Jericho says to be wary of everything, especially anything that wears a mask. ** Jericho and Gwyn gently walk Astranna away from the gravestone to go to bed. Astranna asks if that has to be her future, and Jericho (very obviously lying) says it doesn’t have to be. * Jericho takes first watch. He sits by the fire and tends to it, scanning in all directions, but particularly focusing on Astranna’s tent. With 0 soccesses, he sees nothing. It’s a normal watch. He wakes Gwyn up for her watch. ** “Well, Gwyn, it’s been nice knowing you. I’m probably gonna wake up now, but it’s been a pleasure.” ** “...Sure thing.” * Gwyn gets 1 success – as she’s looking around, she notices one big, glowing yellow eye watching her from behind a tree. She pulls out her sword, slowly walking toward it. ** “Who’s there? Why are you watching us?” * The eye blinks, and then it seems to move down into the ground, sinking into a nearby bush. It’s disappeared now. She goes over to the bush, but with 2 successes (B1), she can’t find signs of anything else. She keeps an eye on the spot, standing in front of Astranna’s tent for the rest of the watch. When her watch ends, she goes to wake up Alphie. * We find Alphie in their dreams. They stand watching this great expanse of hills, each covered in grasses of violet, pink, and cyan blue. It’s beautiful. Peaceful. Warm. At the bottom of each of these hills, they’re able to see a 10ft cube, seeming to be made of… with a mental check, Alphie discerns that although they look like solid granite(?), they’re actually petrified wood. They start to roll back up the hill, defying gravity and climbing up, up, up, and as they climb upward, with each turn, they become almost spherical, until they ''are'' spheres. But a great storm is beginning to brew, such as that when they’re at the top of each hill, the landscape is dark, the wind beating at Alphie’s face. * A stormwall is coming at Alphie, and it hits them, and all at once they find themself in a graveyard, graves expanding for miles, but there’s a sweet smell on the breeze. They make their way to a small mausoleum, built to house maybe 3 people, and inside of the mausoleum is a piping hot apple pie. They see thin wisps of smoke rising up out of it. They give it a poke, and it’s hot inside! They take a bite. It’s delicious. * They turn back to look at the graveyard, and all of a sudden they see a raccoon carrying a gravestone and cackling. Then Gwyn is shaking them awake. ** “You might want to be wary. I saw something I couldn’t identify out there. A shadowy figure with bright, glowing eyes. It disappeared before I could see what it was, but it might still be hanging around.” * Alphie looks around (2 successes) – they feel a bit warmer. That’s good. However, as they’re looking around, they see a strange floating friend at the edge of the firelight. Maybe 40-50 feet away from them is Astranna’s tombstone. It’s moved closer. Frank perches on it and looks down at it. Alphie calls out to ask what he’s doing, but he just stays there looking down. Alphie tells him they brought him some food, and he disappears. They move back to the fire, pointing the gravestone out to whoever’s awake first… which is probably Astranna. * Astranna runs her fingers over the lettering, and it begins to give a soft, golden glow. Then new wording appears at the bottom of the tombstone – “Listen”. She listens close, and from the ground burst two giant cymbals that crash together next to her. She goes reeling backwards, and a drumset rises out of the ground and plays a riff. From below the ground, Alphie hears laughing, and the tombstone begins to move around. Astranna grabs the headstone and pulls up, and sees it’s attached to a drilling mechanism, and attached to the drilling mechanism is a raccoon with goggles over his eyes. * * Anja uses Fell Curse to make him super sweaty. Alphie(?) reads his emotional state, and finds that he’s honestly a little proud of himself. We interrogate him, and ask how he knew what he knew – he said he was listening in, but for things like Astranna’s birthday… he pulls out a pad of paper, and turns it around to show the magic glowing lettering. It gives basic info about a person – d.o.b., age, eye color, blood type, shoe size… ** “I’m kind of a retailer, a supplier. Name’s Bungle.” ** “Oh, hey, Bungle! It’s you!” ( – Newton) * He offers us a discount, and we ask what he has – he’s got a potion of extendable neck, a stick of infinite butter… The party agrees Astranna should get something for free, and Gwyn (2 successes) snatches the pad and gives it to Astranna. We ask how much for the butter, and are told 30gp. ** “If you help me… I mean… if I would’ve known you were the Tattercoat Knights, I would’ve done some different things, I’m gonna be honest here…” * He tells us there’s a bridge he was trying to get across, but there’s a troll guarding it with a pretty high toll – for him, 500gp (formerly 100gp). He pissed the troll off by trying to tunnel under, but he hit the river. He got wet. He tells us the river is to the southwest, and all his stuff is over on the other side; he just kinda set up shop when the forest moved. ** “If you help me get my stuff, I have a club that was made from a star, it’s pretty good. It’s really heavy, but pretty good.” * He also has a sword of bird-slaying! * He tells us people around these parts take differently to stuff like this, and we seemed kinda like monstrous beings. He does the gravestone shtick like once a month, and has toast with people after – that’s how he met Newt! ** Newt didn’t know about this. He was over on the bench. * We demand toast after we help him (usually, people give ''him'' the toast, apparently). After Anja reveals she’s the one who made him extra sweaty, he asks her to cure his dandruff. Astranna apologizes for yelling at him, and sets him down. He tells us more about his troll encounters – the first time he tried to sneak by, the troll threw him away. The second time he tried to go under the river, he was thrown even farther. The third time, he tried the tombstone thing, and one thing led to another… he… well… it didn’t go well. ** “Have you ever heard of the definition of insanity?” ( – Anja) ** “What’s insanity?” * He tells us his house is over the bridge… ''a'' house… this was empty. He claims squatter’s rights. He tells us that the river’s a bit magic, and when he tried to dig through it, it gave him a finger waggle and then punched him. After a brief huddle, the Tattercoat Knights agree to help Bungle, but ask him to leave the gravestone behind. Everyone takes 2 hero points.
