TLDR – Gwyn says some words about Morgen. We take Morgen with us to get past the scrimbimbolos and head down to the lab, where we find archive crystals with a lot of information. Gwyn shuts down the temple’s defenses, and we dive into the archive crystals. Jericho finds out Lavinia is being hunted by the Flesh Tithe, and kind of shuts down. We grab some neat items and get to work on upgrades. Gwyn finds out Lavinia is with Bran, and Alphie uses prophetic dreams to explore their galaxy. In between sessions, Gwyn finds out Cracklebones is launching an attack on the Farmer’s Temple.

  • Date: 39 Lionnir 777 AR – ?
  • Jamie gives the recap.
  • We pick up at about 2pm in our quarters. Morgen is here.
  • Anja asks Gwyn if she’s alright. Gwyn says we should fix Alphie’s necklace, and insists on it again when Alphie asks if she’s okay. Jericho peeks out the door at the scrimbimbolos. One turns its head toward him, and they stare at each other.
  • Anja asks Gwyn if she wants to light a candle, or say a few words, or… Gwyn agrees to try, but she doesn’t know what to say.
    • “I didn’t want it to end like this.”
  • Anja suggests maybe sharing a fond memory or two. Gwyn looks over at everyone, then slowly walks over to take Morgen’s hand.
    • “It’s kind of weird to think about, but I don’t know if I have that many fond memories of her. I… but it was… nice, back before I left. I mean, ever since she created me. I’ve never known her before Olwen died. I’m sure she was different then, but she taught me everything I know, and I think she cared about me, and…”
  • Morgen finally turns her head, and looks at her with these big, blank eyes. Gwyn stares at her and speaks to the group.
    • “I don’t believe that she’s gone. [...] I don’t know if she was the person I thought I knew. I don’t think I could’ve ever been what she wanted, but I didn’t want it to end like this. And I’m sorry.”
  • Gwyn attempts to leave, but one of the scrimbimbolos puts a hand on her shoulder.
    • “Do not depart.”
  • We figure out we have to be accompanied by Morgen, so we walk her out. The scrimbimbolos don’t attempt to bother. Astranna takes a peek at the 3rd floor as we go down. There are lots of drafting rooms, fabrication rooms for larger machines, part creation, small-time foundries… Anja was led into a room on this floor earlier.
  • The 2nd room, the lab, is the fabrication floor dedicated to Morgen’s larger projects. Morgen helps us enter, and waddling around in the center is Henrietta. Astranna immediately scoops her up. Henrietta says she walked here, and that it was windy. She asks for snacks, which Astranna provides.
  • Jericho looks through Morgen’s notes. There are spreadsheets, logistics, and a newspaper from the 37th of Lionnir. It’s by the Ardyrian Times, talking about how this year’s winter is predicted to be very mild compared to other years, the sports teams are up and down, there are futures on potential expeditions to Xorgadden… seems standard, like she was just keeping up with the news.
  • Gwyn makes a mental check (B1 – 3 successes) to find the systems for the scrimbimbolos. She finds a series of archive crystals containing info on them (and a lot more), and a system that broadcasts arcane waves that allows directions to be given to the creatures. There appears to be a shutdown directive that puts them on standby. Gwyn warns us we may have to turn her back on, but she thinks she’ll be fine. She inputs it, and a wave goes through the tower. She sees probably 80 scrimbimbolos all copy the order and go on standby.
  • Jericho looks for crystals on us. Gwyn has the most at around 50, followed up by Alphie with 8, Anja and Jericho with 3 each, and Astranna at 1. We boot up Astranna’s first. It goes through how there’s a mysterious girl, and gives a description of her likeness, before noting attempts to track down information about her, but there’s really nothing special. Morgen gets a little interested tracking down her bloodline and lineage, realizing her mom is from the Titanic Ring and her grandparents are from Arket, but she can’t find any more information on that background.
    • The last thing she notes is that when Gwyn tried to take Alphie, there was a massive spike in energy near Geldorf. It radiated outward, sweeping up Jericho and Anja, before hitching a ride on Gwyn, maybe even causing her malfunction.
  • Jericho’s files are mostly on his detective agency, trying to parse who he is, what he was doing, why he was here. She notes there’s a probability he has some type of powers, and there’s a whole section where she cracks that LaChance isn’t his real name, and she’s curious about what Shigara means… only to be very sad it’s just for marketing. It notes Galen and Lavinia, then shifts to being more centered on Lavinia, and notes how she’s hunting an entity known as the Flesh Tithe.
    • It appears Morgen was trying to track down Lavinia. Lavinia was trying to understand what happened at the town. There were dreams in her head, the image of what the two saw that day never really leaving her. From this point, Morgen asked the Cosmic about the Flesh Tithe, and the Cosmic told her to stay away from it. Even the Cosmic won’t touch it, and they try to stay away from the Tithe. However, they both seek a power that could meet their needs, both hunting after a similar core.
    • All of a sudden, the crystal gets a massive amount of static, ripping and tearing. There are these blemishes across the surfaces of it, where color seems to have been drained away. Jericho skips ahead to near the end, where Morgen notes she believes Ms. Rocca will face certain death very soon. The Flesh Tithe will strike at Lavinia soon, due to her proximity to Old Taracca, halfway between Havell and Gressus.
  • Jericho sets the crystal down and sits on the floor, shaking. Piero crawls out, asking if he’s alright. He says he’s trying to breathe. Piero curls up on his neck.
  • Anja looks up the Volgersi. Its mission is to turn the people they bite into almost a false idol. Something people will worship and have complete and utter trust in, and bring into the fold. It’s a plague ship sailed into a harbor. Everything is a setup for the grand fall – it’s building a funeral pyre, but everyone thinks they’re building a monument, and only when the flame is lit do the people truly see what the Velgersi has done.
    • Morgen wanted to use Anja’s power and its pull to bring Olwen’s soul in and lock it away, then send Anja as far away as possible. She was genuinely a little afraid of her.
  • Alphie listens to their own archives, looking for info on how the Gelid Engine got there. To her knowledge, it’s the result of a ritual dedicated to It Which Thirsts. Not much is known about it, but there are groups dedicated to it. Out in the Flayer Wastes, in the height of summer, bodies have been found frostbitten and covered in ice. Morgen wasn’t interested in Alphie’s family, but noted Abeada.
    • Alphie looks for info on people in the galaxy. It’s noted that people with Gelid Engines noted the presence of others over time in their body, but whether that’s due to It Which Always Thirsts, the presence of beings in the galaxy, or something different… who knows?
  • We listen to Gwyn’s notes. She used to run from a limited red spiral reaction, but when Morgen tried to place Olwen’s soul into her body, that didn’t end up working. She went through a lot of iterations over the years, until at one point, she got her hands on the Breezestone, though in these notes she refers to it as a Nightmare Nexus. It has a chaotic magic to it, but doesn’t break things down around it quite like a red spiral reaction, which literally renders aether into dust if it’s allowed to keep reacting. The Nightmare Nexus allows for there to be almost this electron cloud of Olwen within Gwyn. At any given amount of time there are parts of Olwen in her, but they blink in and out.
    • There are notes about Morgen being really unsure if she’ll ever get her daughter. She knows there are parts of Olwen in her, but she seems very different. There’s a long section about when she chose her name, and how that made Morgen incredibly distraught. She went to great lengths after that to make Gwyn believe that Morgen chose her name, adding false memories to her systems, that Gwyn bucked when she malfunctioned.
    • There was a giddy joy at times, though, where Morgen watched Gwyn learn and grow, kind of like starting over with a new daughter. This was also sometimes replaced with anguish, feeling guilty that she gave up on Olwen.
  • Gwyn puts a pin in that, and looks more into Bran. He returned to Gravisburg after the Shah Vaedin incident and tried to return to a normal life, but he was hunted by Morgen and the Cosmic. He fled to the Prime Ring, and did research on the Zeraki and the Wilds. At one point, he visited an ancient site where the Zeraki once trod on, and checked out books from the ancient Clover library. He didn’t possess the powers he once did, even after getting treatment from psychologists, therapists, and healers. Though he was scarred, he still went back to Shah Vaedin twice. He was left in a coma for a year after the last one. Over the last few years, he’s been assembling a team of bright young minds to go to Shah Vaedin. Morgen believes he’s gonna try to do something to the cave… try to destroy it, use the power of what’s inside, or try to use its knowledge to find Alatyr without her and Olwen.
    • Also, he’s allergic to shellfish.
    • Bran is trying to get a wide array of different skillsets and backgrounds. Many people are going to him – he was pretty renowned. Very recently, he stayed at a place called the Solar Lodge.
  • Gwyn offers to try to contact people for Jericho. He’s stopped shaking and is now crying. He uses Augury: “What is happening to Lavinia?”
    • Jericho sees a hand reach down and pluck a wasp from the ground. The wasp stings the finger, but is crushed by the hand. The hand is seen moving away, as seasons change and pass. Below the skin, the wasp’s scent gets lodged in that hand, and at this point, years later, the hand passes by the same area, and other wasps smell the pheromones from the attack. A powerful scent. All the wasps begin to thrum their wings, eyes looking, as the hand nears them. And then the vision ends.
  • Jericho vomits on the floor. He leans back, clutching his head.
    • “Uh… I– I don’t know for sure, but I think she’s about to die.”
  • He tells us that years ago, after they’d been in the detective business a few years, cases were drying up. They decided to start checking other places.
    • “During one of the trips, we… we found a… the most horrifying thing I’ve ever seen. It was a– slaughter, bodies strewn in all directions, in more pieces than I thought could’ve been made out of a person. We both knew this– we couldn’t– we couldn’t risk the journeys anymore. I wanted to go back home, she wanted to run as far as she could. And we both did that. Parted ways. Now she’s back. Back where it all happened, and I think whatever caused that slaughter is gonna come back for her. I don’t know what to do.”
  • The site was near the Murkmist Lake, closer to the town of Vealfree. Gwyn has to forge some kind of connection in Havell, but could maybe then lock onto Bran with enough energy and the right ritual. She does have a connection to the Titanic Ring.
  • Looking into Quasit, he has a considerable army in the Forest Over Yonder, and many factories. He’s secured control over there, but his home base is south, in the Land of Fallen Stars. Specifically the shattered islands to the west of it. Morgen ran across Quasit early on in her explorations of the Skybound Lands, and the two actually fought. Quasit tried to lock her away, but she ran. The two squabbled and scuffled over the years, but it reached a boiling point years ago when Morgen stole a Breezestone and blamed it on Quasit. That seems like it started everything.
    • Recently, it seems like Morgen was attempting to go and steal more Breezestones, when Quasit tried to steal them first. She’s suspicious within the notes that he was trying to keep the Breezestones out of her hands.
  • Looking into Granny Cracklebones, there isn’t much on her. There’s mention of an old witch near Morgen, but she has the guns trained on her if she gets too close. She then panics, as “those morons” gave her a dagger. Cracklebones has moved into the Elder Swamp, as the Necromancer is swarming the Tillages to the west.
    • The Necromancer had sway over the fish kingdoms, the land of shadows, and more, mostly controlling the cycle of death in the Skybound Lands. He’s been known to blight the land so nothing can grow, allowing easier resurrection of undead. Morgen fears the coming of his corpse knights, a powerful group of undead knights that can cause kingdoms to fall, so she’s glad Cracklebones summoned Tulganneth to deal with them. Turns out they were actually in the fish kingdom, getting ready to move to the Tillages themselves.
  • We start to make plans. We want to equip ourselves well. Gwyn will try to reach out to Lavinia tonight, then Bran the next night.
  • Finding blueprints of the temple, we find that it’s an 11-story temple. Level 10 is the storage area for items, with storage elevators and mechanisms to bring certain materials down via a dumbwaiter-like system.
  • Gwyn gets on the computer to check for other security measures. There’s a lot. Sensors of every shape and kind, motion detectors, automaton patrols… Every single floor can be electrified from this room. When the Gibbit was plugged in, it provided an ever-changing security system.
    • There’s also mention of how this was once a temple, with holy wards on the outside, so there will always be some protection from outside attack.
  • It looks like the Gibbit helped to construct a stealth suit, a longsword, a Rush dagger, a risk assessment device, a genie lamp, a spirit shell, an artificial heart, and a mobile forge.
    • Jericho takes the stealth suit.
    • Gwyn takes the longsword.
    • Astranna takes the dagger.
    • Alphie(?) takes the risk assessment device.
    • Anja takes the lamp.
  • The lamp is Lonzo’s Genie Lamp, a “failed creation”. A beautiful golden lamp with red accents floats forward, into the middle of the room. It has a little bit of heft, but otherwise doesn’t seem special.
  • Anja rubs the lamp, and the shadows in the room momentarily elongate, then completely disappear. Red smoke tumbles out of the lamp, swirling, and we see a long-haired humanoid with azure blue eyes that kind of sparkle even in the dim light. He has grey-tinted skin, and all these small stones float around them.
    • “Hello! Did you rub my lamp? [...] Oh, what do you want? I’m Lonzo. I can give you wishes.”
  • We ask how many wishes we get. He says 3. He says there’s no rules we should know about. We ask if there are rules we shouldn’t know about, and he’s stumped by this.
  • Anja asks for the locations of all the Breezestones. Her map extends in front of her. She says she wants exact locations, and he puts little pins in those locations.
    • “I did it! That was this many wishes!” (He holds up one finger.)
  • Anja asks for a pocket dimension for her cat. A nice inside space. He snaps his fingers, and we watch as Maple stumbles out of Anja’s cat.
    • “I don’t feel so good.”
  • She opens her mouth. There’s a pocket dimension inside her. After some back-and-forth, the wish gets undone, and Maple throws up a rainbow hairball. Anja puts it in a potion and asks for a Gibarette. The Gibbit complies. She mixes together a potion (D10 – 5). She pulls out a massive gallon of iridescent liquid.
    • Immortality Potion (1 hr duration): You’re completely immortal. However, you need to roll a 7 for a success on anything regardless of benefit, basically making it so you can succeed on zero rolls for an hour.
  • We investigate the spirit shell, the artificial heart, and the mobile forge.
    • The spirit shell is a floating, onyx-plated hexagon that can contain a soul in it. It allows the soul to vocalize, and can project an illusion around the shell to mimic a corporeal body.
    • The artificial heart automatically installs itself into a humanoid body. If it dies, its soul is stored in the heart. Gwyn takes this.
    • The mobile forge is a hammer that can be unfolded into an entire forge with an action. Gwyn takes this.
  • We have 20 rare upgrades and 1 legendary upgrade. We distribute them as follows:
    • Alphie’s amulet: -2 rare, -1 legendary.
    • Astranna’s armor (to medium, +10sp): 7 rare upgrades.
    • Jericho’s gun (Sheer I): ? upgrades.
    • Anja’s cat carrier: ? upgrades.
  • We’re told to expect this will take 7.5 days.
  • On the first night, Gwyn tries to contact Lavinia with the dream sand (no Breezestone). It doesn’t work. Jericho is crushed. On the second night, she tries to contact Bran (no Breezestone). Doesn’t work. Third night, she tries to contact him with the Breezestone, and makes (+ fails) a spirit check. She’s put out of commission that night, as she accidentally shuts herself off.
  • On night four, she makes a weak connection, and sees the vague, shadowy outline again.
    • She asks if he knows Lavinia, and he says yes, she’s staying with him right now. He thinks she’s safe. He offers to maybe attempt to have himself and his students make a stronger connection with her, and Gwyn says we’ll think on it. Right now, it’s alright knowing Lavinia is safe.
  • On the sixth night, Alphie uses Prophetic Dreams to “explore [their] galaxy,” and as they fall asleep, attempt to explore the interior within themself. They feel a presence before them, and open their eyes to see Inora there.
    • “Where are we this time, Alphie?”
    • I don’t know. That’s what I’m trying to figure out. Where do you think you are?”
  • As Inora turns around, Alphie’s vision shifts and changes, as they plunge into the Gelid Engine. We end here tonight.
