Shah Vaedin
Overview[edit | edit source]
The small jungle continent of Shah Vaedin lies to the East of Ardyria. This was once the homeland of the gnolls. Now though after the restoration of the Titanic Ring, the continent has become a death trap. None except the divine should think about setting foot on this continent. What lies within Shah Vaedin is not worth your life.
Points of Interest[edit | edit source]
The following is information one should know about Shah Vaedin:
Gnoll Homeland[edit | edit source]
Shah Vaedin is the birthplace of the gnolls. Within the jungles, more gnolls continue to spawn. The bloodthirsty creatures that know no fear seem perfectly adapted to the jungles of the continent.
Braxa Trees[edit | edit source]
These trees, required for the creation of Braxalene, grow within Shah Vaedin only. The strange conditions are the only suitable ones for these miracle trees. A single Braxa Tree is worth a year’s salary for most.
Warped World[edit | edit source]
Shah Vaedin is not capable of supporting red spiral events. This might be seen as a good thing if not for other side effects. Magic does not work as intended in Shah Vaedin. Spells that create fire may summon fish. A cleric’s blessing to mend a wound can just as easily turn the target’s bones to ash.
Scrying and arcane observation has never worked on the continent. Artificers continuously try to find the reason for such obstructions but their efforts have so far yielded findings.
Finally, the laws of physics are routinely broken on the continent. Energy is both created and destroyed. Light only knows straight lines. Gravity, electromagnetism, and more are all rendered chaotic within the jungles of Shah Vaedin.
Arnyr[edit | edit source]
After the Vitality War, the species known as the Arnyr retreated into the forests of Shah Vaedin. While an invasive species, Braxa hunters often find the bodies of half consumed Arnyr. Scholars believe they fulfill the role of bottom tier primary consumer much like ants in a normal ecosystem. Scholars are also unsure how this is possible due to the capabilities of the Arnyr…
The Von Grayz Expedition[edit | edit source]
In 746 A.R., Helmuth von Grayz led an expedition with the intent to map Shah Vaedin. All but von Grayz, Gatsby Grim, Faustus the Fortress, and Countess Lavatera (who joined in the middle of the investigation) died. A monument stands in Traisen for the 2,500 souls who lost their lives in the jungles of Shah Vaedin. During this expedition, Helmuth von Grayz lost his right hand while attempting to escape what he described as “an Arnyr hive queen.”
The Dead Zone[edit | edit source]
Towards the Easternmost lands of Shah Vaedin there is an area known as the Dead Zone that encompasses 1000 square miles. Nobody has ever entered the Dead Zone and lived. Not even Astral Ships can fly over this region. Based on reports gathered from Braxa hunters, there is life within the Dead Zone. One team even reported seeing multiple campfires within the zone.
Three Cities of Shah Vaedin[edit | edit source]
There are three cities within Shah Vaedin: Maedan, Nush, and Tekreran. Maedan lies on the Western beaches of Shah Vaedin. It supports a growing population of immigrants within its walls. Nush is a dying city 65 miles into the jungles of Shah Vaedin. The city’s population dwindles as Shah Vaedin seeks to reclaim its land. Finally, Tekreran lies in ruins 120 miles from the northern shore of Shah Vaedin. Nobody knows what happened to the city. In 764 A.R. tt was a growing city with the most advanced gear money could buy. Tekreran was a humanitarian project supported by a number of wealthy benefactors with the sole hope of perfecting Braxa tree logging. In 765 A.R., Tekreran went silent. It took two years to reestablish contact with the city. When explorers finally returned the city was in ruins with not a soul there. Curiously, no signs of struggle were found. The bodies of the inhabitants were never found. Yet in 771 A.R. a letter was discovered hidden inside a wall stone. The letter said “I am going to see Alatyr, the Zostrium city. They are showing us the path. The path is Zostrium.”
