Gun Dealer

From The Shivo Library

Historian: Caleb. Date: 05/05/2025

TLDR – Kirval is turned back into his normal form, and hits the bricks. We take some cuttings of an apple tree to grow our own Scrimbimbolo defense (and leave 22gp for Rola, for her troubles). Jericho gets a sick new gun from a merchant named Sizzle, who alerts us to a town being terrorized by a Medusa. We agree to help. Maple is introduced to a gateway drug. Inora returns a little undercooked, and pretty soon Jericho is affected too. Gwyn malfunctions. Alphie drops to zero health blocks as their cold rises, and will die if their cold is not reduced to zero by next session.

  • Date: 13 Lionnir 777 AR – 18 Lionnir 777 AR.
  • Shannon gives the recap!
  • It’s about 7:20 am. The day is ahead of us. Anja asks if everyone’s alright – everyone is rattled, but relatively unharmed. Alphie reaches for their earpiece, and asks Inora if she’s there. They don’t hear any words, but their vision grows slightly green before returning to normal.
    • “Sorry about what happened. I hope you’re okay.”
  • They try to draw upon their dream guardian power, but it feels like there’s a barrier. Astranna hopes out loud that she’ll be alright. Gwyn checks on Newton (he’s still okay). We look around for Kirval, and find a figure peeking out from behind a doorway resembling the appearance described of the merchant.
    • “Oh, wow, she really kept her promise. Oh, well, thank you all, so much, it’s been a pleasure getting to meet all of you. Do I– do I– would you like some money or a place to stay or?”
  • We debate on what to do about him, and Astranna points out that he should probably be pretty far from us, since the Scrimbimbolo is hunting down Alphie. Kirval agrees with this and hits the bricks. Jericho points out that this means he’ll be taking his wagon back.
  • Alphie has the idea of taking an apple tree sapling with us to help with the Scrimbimbolo. We take some cuttings from a sapling and one of Rola’s pots to keep it in, and Astranna and Alphie leave a combined 22gp for her to cover the pot and the… unfortunate situation with her door.
  • We make our way down the mountain, reaching the bottom around midday. Fishing Pole is still there, but it looks like Kirval took back his horse and traveling cow. We start the trek back – it’s about 8-9 days back the way we came. Anja collects a stone for each day. One day, she rolls 2d6 for her rock find; she wanders off to find some rocks, and finds some beautiful quartz with streaks of malachite through it, giving the stone a wonderful luster. She finds a whole patch of rocks with this design, and hears a voice.
    • “Hey, hello, is that a person over there?”
  • She sees a fellow with a turned-over wagon in a ditch/divot. He’s got more of a reptilian visage, with orange-yellow skin and a little fire burning atop his head. He’s got a cat-sized ant on his shoulder, its mandibles flexing in the air.
    • “Could you, uh, help me with this if you wouldn’t mind?”
  • Anja tries and fails to help him turn it over, but says she’s with friends, and goes to collect us to help. Everyone goes, but Jericho keeps an eye out to see if this is a bandit trap… with 1 success, he doesn’t see anyone, but he’s certainly keeping an eye out.
  • We ask how this happened, and he says he was trying to bed down for a bit and check his wares, but he wasn’t paying attention and piloted it right into this hole. He introduces himself as Sizzle, and we all chip in, managing to right it. He notices that we’re strong and weird-looking, and have really messed up coats…
    • “Wait a minute… I know what you are. You’re genies!”
  • We tell him we’re the Tattercoat Knights, and he says that was his third guess – his second was genies that have been turned into leprechauns. We find out that leprechauns run a lot of the bridges, and usually hire trolls. His ant is Sizzle Jr, and he’s a very proud father. He assumes we’re traveling to help with the Breezestone situation, and we tell him it’s on the list. He asks if the path to Sailor’s Nook is gonna be opened anytime soon; that’s where his business usually operates out of. He tells us he has a bunch of wares, stuff of the elementrix variety, and he’s willing to offer a discount. This isn’t what he’s got at his main base, but… he begins to wheel something forward, and flips a switch on the side of one of his chests. A tray begins to extend.
    • B16K Pistol – A beautiful, long-barreled pistol made of cedarwood, with vines growing up around it. The barrel extends outward like a horn at the end. He fires a bolt of lightning at a nearby tree, which explodes.
    • The Kingfisher – A long, elementrix rifle, with dual red and blue glass tubes spiraling down the bellow. Operated by a set of blacksmith’s bellows at the end. It can be overcharged for additional damage. It has a dmg rating of 4, but doubles with each overcharge and gains Sheer, along with a possibility of backfiring.
    • The Naxos – A shotgun made of an acid-pockmarked iron, with a pumping mechanism at the end. A green vapor seems to manifest and appear around the barrel of the shotgun. It requires an action to reload after firing, but it’s not 2:1, and the dmg rating is 12. It does triple damage to structures.
    • G37 Long Eye, Creed Model – A really really fucking long rifle, accurate to a mile out.
  • Jericho wants to talk pricing before he gets too excited. Sizzle says we helped him out, and he assumes we’ve helped a lot of others out, so he asks Jericho what he thinks would be a fair number.
    • “Listen, I’m not an elementrix worker. I don’t make these things, I just use them. I don’t know what the sort of labor involved runs.”
  • Sizzle tells him the building costs alone for the G37 in this condition is about 300gp, though he’s willing to take a bit of a hit, because without us he probably would have had to leave them for a few days, and they could’ve been ruined, stolen, etc… so no matter what, he’s making more of a profit than he was.
  • Jericho offers 120gp for the Naxos, and they haggle for a second before landing on 150gp. Sizzle says that if Jericho ever needs it worked on or pumped up a little, he’ll be happy to do anything once he’s back at Sailor’s Nook. He just can’t leave for there yet, with the whole Medusa problem – there’s a problem with one where his brother is.
    • “My brother, Fizzle, he lives just over, about what, 6, 7 miles west of here, small little place. Uh, he sent me a letter that basically, there was a strange person hanging around the town for a while, and well, I thought, well, whatever. It was part of our general letters that we send back and forth, but then he writes back that him and the entire town had to evacuate, a Medusa walked in and was yelling and screaming, everyone had to flee, a buncha people got turned to stone.”
  • He wanted to head to Limerick or Bumfuzzle to find people who could clear out the Medusa. Jericho asks for a group huddle, and says he really likes this guy – we all agree to help, including Newton, who doesn’t seem all that eager to get back to Low Falutin.
  • We tell Sizzle we’ll help, and Astranna also asks if he knows where any of the Breezestones went – he tells us one supposedly flew off south in the Tillages, and when he points out the general area on our map, it seems to line up with our compass.
  • We start on our merry way. Astranna tends to the tree, trying to do the one thing she feels like she’s known how to do since we got here [B1 + farmer’s knowledge – 3 successes]. It’s doing well, and getting nutrients. Occasionally she puts it down in real soil, which helps it a lot, and occasionally replaces the dirt. As she tends to it, Henrietta waddles over, and is very excited by the tree. She wants to ride on it. Astranna gently tells her it’s not strong enough yet, but she can soon! She gives Henrietta scritches, and Henrietta proceeds to run around in circles.
  • Anja approaches Jericho, asking if he has a moment. He asks what for.
    • “I’m sorry this isn’t a lighter topic. I’m just thinking about the Scrimbimbolo, and I have some suspicions.”
  • She points out that it appeared very soon after Alphie told Gwyn’s mother where we were, and Jericho says the dream of the Scrimbimbolo came first. They talk about this for a bit, before Anja says his new gun is cool. He says he hasn’t gotten a new one since he started carrying – he got his first one from his ex (ex-detective partner, not in her capacity as ex-girlfriend). He actually started his business with her; she got him into wanting to be a detective. She was aid enforcement before that. Anja apologizes for leaping from one tricky topic to another.
  • Jericho apologizes for being spacy, and Anja says everyone’s been tightly wound – that was the most intense thing to have happened since we got here, and for most of us the most intense thing ever. She asks about how Piero’s been, and Jericho says he was good about calming him down. He invites Piero out, and Piero scrabbles up on his shoulder. Anja lets Maple out for fresh air, and her eyes are glued on Piero.
    • “You can’t eat him. He has a sword.”
    • “Mhm! I understand this. I will be on my best behavior.”
  • Jericho demonstrates the gun for Piero, and Astranna yells at him for doing that without warning. Henrietta is clutching onto her head, scared shitless. Alphie prays to the Gibbit.
    • “Gibbit, if you can hear this, thank you for everything that you did, and I promise we’ll try to find you as soon as we can. Hope you’re doing okay.” (+1 HP)
  • Astranna looks for catnip – she’s able to find a small grove as the party meanders through the Tillages, and finds some catnip nestled in between some mint, some mushrooms, and other forest weeds and fungi. She inspects the mushrooms… judging by the caps and the more brownish-white color, as opposed to red like a toadstool, it seems like it’d be edible, or at least not lethal. She takes the mushrooms to try to cook with later, and delivers the catnip to Anja. Maple enjoys it so, so much. A little too much.
  • Gwyn seeks out Astranna, and asks about how farm life was. Astranna tells her about it, and also walks her through what she’s doing with the sapling. Gwyn blurts that she thinks her mom might be trying to kill them. Astranna hopes it isn’t her – she thinks it’s weird that Morgen would be looking for Alphie and not Gwyn, but Gwyn says that Morgen might not even know she’s here; Morgen’s only known her as Olwyn, and not Gwyn. Astranna reassures her that she’s her own person, and that Morgen should be able to see that. She’s sure everything will work out, and that everyone, including Gwyn, will be safe. They hug, and go back to plant-raising lessons. Gwyn gets to pet Henrietta.
  • Alphie invokes prophetic dreams again, holding onto one of Gwyn’s items, with the intent to bring back Inora. There’s a warbling effect in the air, and a green shimmer passes over their vision. Inora appears, but is a little translucent.
    • “Inora! Are you okay?”
    • “Hello!”
    • “Hi…”
    • “First time back cloud dark over there?”
  • Alphie asks if she’s okay, and she responds, “Pollywaggles brook?” Trying to talk to her more only results in more gibberish. Jericho uses learn emotional state on Inora, and finds there’s three at once, each one exactly 33% of her emotional state – confused, happy, and then like, a hungry bit. It’s weird, like reading three people at once. Astranna thanks Inora for saving her, and Inora gives her a confused smile. Jericho gives Inora a ration.
    • ““Mm… loops and loops and brooks and hoops?”
  • Jericho uses Augury – “Why is Inora speaking in misplaced sentences at the moment?”
    • He sees a vision of Inora getting blended. As with that complete blending of the body, her mind and psyche were also blended. While she’s repairing herself, there are still things out of place.
  • Jericho now speaks in gibberish! He hears Inora perfectly as she asks if he’s alright, and he says he’s fine, but he thinks they’re in the same boat now. She asks what boat that is, and he says that none of the others can understand a word they say.
    • To the others, when he spoke to them, he said, “Octopus, octopus, various types of underwater creature.”
  • Jericho tries to get Alphie’s attention, and begins a game of charades. He indicates two words, and uses his cloak to shield himself and make himself look scary, and swirls his stick on the ground. He mixes together a pinecone and some leaves to get his point across, and Inora is unimpressed.
    • “Am I just a pinecone and some leaves to you people? [...] You could’ve used a flower, that’s all I’m saying.”
  • Eventually the party figures out that she (and he) got Scrimblended. At some point in this conversation, with an unfortunate segue about malfunctioning, Astranna says that a fan within Gwyn started revving loudly when she pet Henrietta earlier.
  • Astranna takes Gwyn aside, and suggests using the notebook to find out Morgen’s next target – she’s down for it when Jericho is coherent again, and suggests also asking about herself and Olwyn.
  • We set up watches – it goes Alphie → Gwyn → Astranna. Alphie and Inora play War, but eventually Alphie clocks that Inora isn’t reading the cards correctly; occasionally, she’d go to sweep them for herself and Alphie would have to stop her. But Inora goes along with it. At one point she proclaims, “Maple sheep fighting old ladies,” and blushes when Alphie tells her what she said.
    • “Pharaohs…”
  • Alphie rolls a d6 – 6. They make a spirit save (0 successes), and their influence is set back down to 0. They feel normal. But something happened. Gwyn gives Alphie her blanket. Astranna takes watch, and hears a snapping at the edge of camp… and turns, to see it’s a squirrel. She deflates when she realizes it’s just a normal squirrel, and not the Gibbit.
    • “We turn to the things that the Tattercoat Knight party does not see. They did not see Alphie taking out a piece of paper, and they begin to write, pen in one hand, dagger in the other. They did not see Astranna tending to the fire, and a shape behind them floating just above the treeline. And you all did not see Gwyn as she goes to lay her head down to bed, has something in her eye. Inside that iris, inside that pupil, something moving. It’s not a fleck of dirt, or anything like that. Gwyn has a loading bar in her eye. 23% done… And there’s a high as fuck cat in camp too.”
  • Everyone gains 3 hero points… and Alphie loses a health block as their cold reaches 7. They’re at zero health blocks, and will die if their cold is not reduced by the end of the next session.
