Trials of the Gibbit

From The Shivo Library

Historian: Jamie. Date: 02/24/2025

Once upon a time…

  • We pick up as we bring the sheep back to Wally, and he is grateful. Then Jericho continues to freak out over the cube.
  • Astranna suggests touching the cube. Mostly, we’re on board, but a little hesitant. Caleb is bursting with barely-contained glee.
  • Astranna touches the cube. It feels a little warm, and maybe fuzzy to the touch? Astranna pets the cube, but it doesn’t seem like fur. She reports back to the group, and we are equally perplexed.
  • Jericho listens to the cube, and hears a very slight noise - almost like a squeaking, or a high-pitched trill that remains ever present even when not being touched.
  • The cube smells a little garlicky. We wonder if we should lick the cube. Astranna licks the cube. The cube begins to light up green, and Astranna;s tongue vibrates. Then a sound rings out:
    • “Astranna! You and your apostles have been admitted into the Trial of the Gibbit! Please enter.”
    • Then the cube produces a doorway and hallway, and Astranna jumps on in. We all chase after her quickly.
  • Since Astranna went first, she is first to see a room with a door at the far end, with a stone table in front of us. On this table, there are many cups, probably around 9. Each cup is a different color, with their own eccentricities.
  • There’s a letter on the table. It says, in essence, that 8 cups are poisonous and 1 isn’t. If you drink the correct cup, you get to move on. When you touch a cup, you must drink from it. It also says that these rules are decreed by Naraaag.
  • Astranna points out that there are a few missing torches, possibly. Then she offers the possibility that the one in the middle, yellow, is the correct one because the design of the table seems to be pointing to it.
  • Jericho asks Gwyn - quietly - if poison would hurt her. The answer is - depends on the poison! Who’s to say.
  • Alphie does a little divination, and determines that the centermost cup that Astranna was considering drinking would be a bad idea. We throw around a few ideas with the torches, before Jericho looks under the rug and finds one big purple bendy straw, around 70-80 ft long.
  • We point out that drinking with the bendy straw wouldn’t count as touching the cup. We then discuss how to best use the straw, questioning physics and whether it’s magical or not (it is not). Anja says she will “cool it with [her] suggestions.” She then does not proceed to do this (i love you shannon this is a jest).
  • Jericho examines the torches - turns out they’re candles.
  • Astranna checks out the heavy stone door. No funky markings to be seen.
  • We continue to debate whether using the bendy straw counts as touching the cup. We decide it doesn’t.
  • Jericho puts Pierro onto the table, and asks him to smell the cups. Pierro does try. He figures out…
    • First one is bad.
    • Second one is bad.
    • Third one is possibly fine. Smells like lavender.
    • Fourth one is bad. All of them are bad actually.
    • Red smells like roses, green like bleach. Everything else just smells bad.
  • We decide to use the straw to test the purple cup. We discover that, viscosity-wise, the liquid seems like water. There’s also nothing floating or weird. We do the same for the red, but in that we find there’s some red particulate in it.
  • Astranna volunteers to drink the purple one. Gwyn volunteers instead, and Astranna asks why. Gwyn deflects by saying she doesn’t want Astranna in danger, and Astranna and Gwyn both pick up that this is a deflection.
  • Jericho does a bibliomancy to check whether it’s purple. He gets the word “final” and we’re like. Fuck that could go either way.
  • Astranna is sure about drinking the purple, and passes Henrietta to Gwyn. Astranna then picks up the purple cup and drinks it. She coughs a bit, it tickles her throat - and the door opens.
  • Jericho makes a mental check to see if Astranna is okay - 1 success - and she seems fine. She repossesses Henrietta and we go through the door.
  • As we do, Astranna is very quickly met with a large cliff that spirals upwards. We can see a door all the way up at the top. The cliff looks… climbable, though!
  • This is a challenge. See description for details:

  • Gwyn attempts to go right (1:3) and succeeds, with the aid of hero points. She comes across two boxes, and opens them. In the left, there’s a curled up piece of paper. It seems to be an old-timey map resembling the one Newt has - however, it has a place marked on the map near Windleblyde - a place marked “the pentagon”. In the rightmost box, there’s 250 gold pieces.

They both make physical saves, and fail. They both slide down, crashing into Jericho. They all make physical saves and all fail. They all slide down. They all need to make physical saves. Jericho and Anja fail and are at the starting point. Gwyn catches herself at the first platform.

  • We go through the door, and come across a locked door. It has a letter lock, six letters long. We try “Gibbit”, after the name of the trial. It fails, but the T is correct. The other letters are right, but in the wrong place.
    • We try “bright”. B and T are correct, r and h don’t belong.
    • We try “begift” - and that works.
  • The door unlocks, and we feel a musty air leak out of this chamber. Inside, there’s a great room, a spiraling, floating mass of interlocking rings with a ball floating just below them. Water and rock like the edges of this space. We hear a voice - “One must assert dominance to pass the trial of the Gibbit and be deemed worthy.”
  • Anja asserts that she can do this, and steps out in front. Nothing happens. She goes up to the ball. Nothing happens. Anja and Astranna have a little tiff, but Anja comes out dominant. Glyphs begin to glow on the ball, and it begins to split open.
  • Inside, we hear a little chirping sound. We see a little, strange silvery goo begin to float upward. It makes an INCREDIBLE sound. So cute. Oh my god.
  • Anja greets it, and it continues to meep. The Gibbit, as this is called, is gifted to Anja. She now has ownership of The Gibbit.
  • We leave. Maple is not a fan of the Gibbit, but we talk her out of eating it.
  • When we exit, it’s dark out, close to midnight. Jericho hollers for Wally and Newton, and they jump awake. We tell Newton that we have a Gibbit, and he says he’s heard about it before. That it’s the creator of stars, galaxies, and universes. That it’s made some legendary things. He’s frightened of it, but admits it’s cute. Still is very wary of it.
  • Jericho eats a cigarette.
  • Astranna pets the Gibbit and asks if it has a name. We agree that its name is probably Gibbit.
  • We discuss what it could possibly eat. Astranna and the Gibbit meep back and forth at each other. Anja offers the Gibbit a biscuit, and is told to roll a d6. She rolls a d6.
    • As she gives the biscuit, it trills and takes it. We see the exterior of the Gibbit shine and shimmer. Then it throws up a perfect, unsmoked cigarette and goes back to Astranna for pets. Jericho is promptly given the cigarette.
  • Anja attempts to coerce the Gibbit into creating fabric by giving it another biscuit. It creates a small 5x5 square of fabric. Anja promptly makes this into a kerchief for Henrietta.
  • Jericho attempts to use Note in the Sleeve on the Gibbit. He’s offered the choice between a question and just a fun random tidbit, and he chooses fun random tidbit. Dalton is then kidnapped into side one.
  • Jericho collapses to his knees, shaking, then lays down. We rush to his side. He is nigh unresponsive. Eventually, he says, “There’s only one of those. Uh……… uh….. How do we define god?” He thinks it might be one. Horrifying.
  • We ask why he thinks that. He says his coat can tell him things about things (helpful). He tried to use it on Gibbit, and apparently it’s older than the land, older than time, older than Zell, older than EVERYTHING. Jericho spirals.
  • We question why the Gibbit was given to us. We don’t reach a conclusion. Jericho continues to spiral.
  • We continue to spiral.
  • The Gibbit produces a fully tungsten coffee mug. That’s insane.
  • We seek out Wally, Alphie has a weird moment with Frank, and we all eventually set up camp. The end :)
